Prayer Ministry Guidelines

HOW WE PRAY

A simple guide for your prayer ministry session

This explains what a prayer ministry session is like so you know what to expect and can relax as you meet with God.

  1. What Prayer Ministry Is
  • This is a peaceful time for you to talk with God.
  • We help you listen to Him and notice what He is doing in your heart.
  • We believe God loves you, knows you, and wants to meet with you.
  1. What Prayer Ministry Is Not
  • It is not counselling or therapy.
  • We do not tell you what to do or make decisions for you.
  • We do not promise healing or any specific result.
  1. Who Will Be With You
  • You will have two prayer ministers with you.
  • They are experienced and are there to make this a safe, gentle space.
  1. Your Comfort Matters
  • You can share as much or as little as you want.
  • You can ask questions at any time.
  • You can pause or stop the session whenever you need to.
  1. Touch
  • We only use gentle touch (like a hand on your shoulder) if you say it’s OK.
  • You can say “no thank you” at any time.
  1. Your Privacy
  • What you share is kept private.
  • We only pass something on if:
    • You or someone else is at risk
    • Safeguarding requires it
  • We follow our church’s Confidentiality and Safeguarding Policies – you can find them here twww.revivechurch.uk
  1. How We Pray Together
  • We pray calmly, gently, and with care.
  • Sometimes we may share a Bible verse, picture, or thought — you can decide if it’s helpful.
  • Many times we use a “call and response” style of prayer.
    • We say a short line.
    • You repeat it to God.
    • This helps you pray simply and naturally.
  • You can ask us to slow down, change the words, or stop at any point.
  1. Your Part
  • You don’t need to perform or say anything special.
  • Just relax, be yourself, and expect God to meet you.
  • You are free to respond in your own way.
  1. After the Session
  • You might want time to reflect or write things down.
  • You may feel tired emotionally and/or physically and may want create space afterwards to rest.
  • If you want more prayer or support, you can book another session or speak with a pastor.

Theological Basis for Prayer Ministry as Christians

  1. Jesus’ heart is for believers to be whole.

Isaiah 9:6 prophecies Jesus as Prince of Peace and of His rule being unending and without limit. The word peace there is “shalom.” Which depicts wholeness and includes the meanings deliverance (freedom) and salvation. Jesus came that we may experience wholeness and freedom, and His ability to minister this is without limit.

  1. Followers of Jesus Cannot Be Possessed

We believe that a follower of Jesus cannot be possessed by a demon, because the Holy Spirit lives within them (1 Corinthians 6:19). A believer carries spiritual authority and internal spiritual strength through Christ (Luke 10:19).

Our prayer sessions are designed to help believers use their God-given authority to find freedom in places where they may feel stuck, oppressed, or weighed down.

  1. Spiritual Warfare and Why We Pray This Way

The Bible teaches that even Christians can give the enemy a “place” or foothold (Ephesians 4:26–27) when we agree with lies (John 8:44; 2 Corinthians 11:3) or participate in sin that opens the door to spiritual influence (1 Corinthians 10:20–21).

In these cases, Christians may need to find freedom from the devil’s traps (2 Timothy 2:24–26) so they can fully live in the abundant life Jesus offers (John 10:10).

This freedom is something each believer must personally pursue with the help of the Holy Spirit.

  1. The Nature of the Battle

Until Jesus returns, we live in a world where spiritual warfare is real (Ephesians 6:10–18). The enemy’s main tactic is deception—twisting truth and hiding God’s goodness.

Satan and demons try to blind unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4) and distract or discourage believers (2 Corinthians 11:3).

God gives us spiritual weapons and His full armour so we can stand firm in truth, righteousness, faith, and prayer (Ephesians 6).

  1. The Final Victory Belongs to Jesus

This spiritual battle will not continue forever. When Jesus returns with His angels (2 Thessalonians 1:7; Mark 8:38), He will bring a final end to evil (Revelation 19–22).

Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:3) and eventually thrown into the lake of fire forever (Revelation 20:10).

Everyone who belongs to Jesus will live with Him in the new heavens and new earth, where there is no more sin, pain, or oppression.
